What is the issue?
A national network of local stakeholder banks would have significant benefits for the UK economy, particularly for individuals and financial inclusion, SME lending, and economic resilience on both the national and local levels. Despite this, there remains limited political impetus for such a network of local banks, whilst the public has not been engaged in this debate to a great degree.
What will the project try to achieve?
Move Your Money will campaign for the establishment of local banking infrastructure, and aims to achieve mass mobilisation of the public in support of stakeholder banking. The campaign will increase public knowledge, support, and pressure for a network of local banks, whilst working to reduce political opposition to the plans and increase momentum for needed reform of the UK banking sector.
Who might be interested in this project?
Anyone with an interest in public mobilisation and engagement in financial reform; policy makers interested in macro-economic strategy and micro-economic development; researchers examining local banking in theory and practice; and individuals who want to improve their communities and the UK economy.
